How to price fixtures between clubs from wildly different leagues, and why the qualifying rounds are the most exploitable.
The Conference League brings together clubs whose domestic leagues differ enormously in standard, and comparing them is the central difficulty. A mid-table side from a major league and a champion from a small one can look similar on paper and be far apart in reality.
The qualifying rounds are where this is most acute and least analysed. Very few people model these fixtures seriously, information is thin, and prices are set conservatively. That combination is unusual in modern football and it is the clearest opportunity the competition offers.
The practical approach is to anchor on league strength rather than on domestic position. A team finishing eighth in a strong league is usually stronger than a champion from a weak one, and the market frequently prices the champion's status rather than its actual level.
