How this market differs from the match total, why it punishes late goal-fests, and the fixtures that suit it.
Both halves over 0.5 requires at least one goal before the break and at least one after it. A 4-0 win with all four goals after half time loses. That single condition changes the bet entirely compared with a match total.
It suits open, end-to-end fixtures between attacking sides that concede as readily as they score, and it suits leagues where matches start quickly rather than building slowly. It is poor value on a heavy favourite expected to win comfortably, because those games frequently produce a goalless first half followed by a second-half collapse.
As a rough guide, the price is roughly the product of two independent first-half and second-half goal probabilities, and the market prices it more or less that way. The edge, when it exists, comes from knowing which teams start fast.
